This is an easy to read picture book with limited words per page that relates one thing to another (like give a mouse a cookie and he'll want some milk) that is humorous to kids.
This whole series is a bit tedious and boring for me but my son enjoys it. I think he is a bit young to understand the cyclical ending but he does love looking at the pictures and the animals.
When I taught in the early childhood program (ages 3-6) at a Montessori school, my class loved this book. They enjoyed the funny pictures and the funny things the mouse would do. They laughed and we discussed the crazy things the mouse would do. They liked the cyclical aspect of the ending. The kids also liked the other books in this series with the pig and the pancake and the moose and the muffin. Its one of those books that the kids loved to hear over and over even though they could recite almost every page. I would recommend this book for preschool and kindergarten age.
This book is a great book to have when kids are moving away from the 1 word and short sentence board books and into "real" stories. The books are fun, silly and just the right length. I started my boys on them when they turned 2, but I can still read it to my almost 5 year old son.
