In a magical shop where the toys come to life overnight, Stripy Horse has many adventures. This book contains two separate stories, "Who are you, Stripy Horse" and "Look Out, Stripy Horse."
"The Adventures of Stripy Horse" is a collection of two short stories about Stripy Horse, one of many toys who magically come to life when an old toy shop is closed for the night. The premise behind the stories is silly and whimsical, and the characters of each story are quirky and lovable.
In "Who are you, Stripy Horse" the toys come alive, but Stripy has no idea what his name is. He joins with his new found friends Muriel (a bird from a lamp), Hermann (a draft catcher shaped like a dog), and Roly and Pitch (salt and pepper shakers shaped like penguins) to set out to find out his true identity. They make their way through the shop to Ming...the wise vase. Ming offers great wisdom to the questing group and advises them to "always read the label." With that, the friends read Stripy Horse's label, and are thrilled to discover that their friend's name is actually "Hand Wash". Satisfied with what they have learned, the toys hustle back to their places before the shop opens for the day. While the story is quite silly, the illustrations are equally as fun.
In "Look Out, Stripy Horse" the same characters find themselves trying to round up the crazy monkeys who have escaped from the monkey puzzle. They work together to lure the monkeys back to the puzzle board with Hermann cleverly disquised as a giant banana. This silly story is sure to make your little monkeys giggle as they read about the this adventure of Stripy Horse. They will also enjoy the vivid drawings and the unique characters.
While the Stripy Horse stories are simple, there is definitely something interesting about the way they read. Whether it is the uniqueness of the characters, the timing of the text, or the vividness of the illustrations, the stories are amusing and good for a little laugh.
